Hello.
I’m D and this is intended to be my anime review blog. Yes, yet another one. My reasons for setting this up are twofold. One, I really adore anime and oddly enough, writing down my thoughts and feelings on things I love helps me understand them better. I thought I might as well share them because why the hell not. The second reason is that I want to work on my critical thinking. Pretty selfish reasons, right?
I should point out that though I said that I want to work on my critical thinking, my reviews will more often than not have a subjective slant to them. Taste is an important component when it comes to a medium such as anime and I do have certain preferences. That said, I will refrain from mindlessly bashing or fawning over shows. There will be reasons given for why I liked or disliked a particular work.
I am an amateur. My efforts at reviewing will most likely reflect that. Please be patient with me. Comments and discussions are always welcome, though I do ask that you remain civil in your criticisms of me.
For now, I’ll follow this basic structure for my reviews:
Synopsis: Spoiler-free summary plus my first impressions.
Plot: The juicy part. Could contain spoilers.
Characters: Characters can make or break a story for me, so this part will get a lot of focus.
Art and Music: What it says on the tin. Likely to be highly subjective, especially the music part.
Analysis of Choice: A specific element in the show that caught my eye. Could be characters, relationships of any kind, storyline etc. Will be a separate post since the review would be too long otherwise.
Verdict: Final thoughts as well as rating.
Be warned that I choose shows to watch with no regard for whether they’re old or new.
I plan to post a review every two weeks but life is hectic and occasionally evil, so there might be inconsistencies in the schedule. To keep the blog from being inactive for such a long time, I’ll post the analysis section a week after the review.
NOTE: After actually writing a couple reviews, I’ve noticed that they tend to be quite spoilery. I suppose that my reviews are intended for those who’ve already watched the whole series or those who don’t mind heavy spoilers.
I too am just starting out on writing about anime, and am also trying to exercise my critical thinking. Anime is a great outlet for that! I first saw your SnK: silver linings post and decided to check your blog out..looking forward to your progress and your thoughts! Keep up the good work!

Nice looking blog, D. Your review structure is similar to mine, and I really like the separate analysis idea. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thank you! Yours look pretty great too. I’m seeing some of my favorite shows over there too.

Intro? Looks like I have now read all your posts.
My reviews can be a bit spoilery too. I tend to cover older stuff so I take it for granted that readers will have already seen the show I am writing about.

Yes, you have 😀
Same. Plus I tend to read reviews after I’ve watched a show so I kinda automatically write them in a manner more suited to that.
