Diabolik Lovers Episode 09 – Body Snatching and Random Red Moons

Body Snatching and Random Red Moons

This shit finally got good

Overview:

The subhead does not lie. This show finally did something worthwhile. It may have taken over half the total episodes to get around to it but an actual plot is rearing its pretty head.

Will it last? Who knows.

The episode begins with a shot of Richter (the green haired guy who pops up sometimes for the sole purpose of being mysteriously mysterious) dramatically saying it’s time for Cordelia to awaken. That flows into a shot of Yui whose chest is hurting again. Subtlety what subtlety.

Because Yui has no sense of self-preservation, she decides to take a nighttime stroll and ends up running into Shu (the lazy asshole). And because she has no brain, she decides to stay and make conversation. She tells him about her weird symptoms hoping to achieve fuck knows what. You get one guess as to how he responds.

Listen up folks, the new No.1 solution to chest pains is to have a vampire suck on your neck, preferably without your consent.

What follows is a series of shots oddly reminiscent of an extended porn scene except that instead of changing sex positions, they keep changing blood-drinking positions. I counted at least three.

Thankfully, it ends when Yui keeps asking about the awakening/sacrificial bride thing Shu mentioned before munching on her. He says someone else will answer her questions and leaves her at the tender care of Richter who appears out of nowhere but has clearly been there for a while. Was he watching? Probably. He’s the sick sextet’s uncle and creepiness must run in the family.

Yui asks why she was ‘chosen’ to be the bride and what the hell it all means. That’s when Richy proves that he is every bit the asshole his nephews are and tells her not to be so conceited as she wasn’t special or anything, just easy prey. On the bright side, he also implies that Yui’s father had nothing to do with this and that makes her happy. Enjoy that silver lining, Yui, because shit is about to get real cloudy.

Yui’s chest pain gets worse while Richter Dickter happily calls for Cordelia. He leads a blank-faced and zombie-like Yui to that dusty room from the first episode. What happens next is no shock. Yui touches Cordelia’s bloody dress and bam! Yui is Cordelia, high-pitched evil giggles and all. Each of the vampires senses it from wherever they are and none of them seem happy.

Oh and the moon turns red for some reason. I’m thinking it’s for atmosphere.

Thoughts:

Ignore the first ten minutes and this episode was actually worth the watch which isn’t saying much when the whole episode is just 15 minutes but still…

You know why I’m so happy though? Because it seems like we won’t have to put up with Yui emulating a blood bag for at least one episode since Cordelia is in her body now.

Of course I could be wrong and we’ll be back to usual next episode but then I might actually cry and die a little inside.

Other interesting developments include Yui’s father’s possible innocence in her predicament. The diary she found may have been fake too. But that still leaves the question of what part he played, knowingly or otherwise, in her getting to the mansion.

I am completely shocked here: I think my heart has just skipped a beat: there is a plot to this series? Really? Wow, what is the world coming too. I think I had better report this to the news lol 😂😂

The issue with this development is given Yui has no sense or personality I don’t really care if she gets body jacked or not. With most characters you would kind of hope for them to reclaim their body (usually through some dramatic internal epiphany and then forcing the other person out). With Yui, you kind of hope her original personality just gets devoured.

I’m in the same boat as you. Yui no longer being Yui is what I like about this development. I can use an episode without her usual doe-eyed idiot. But I do know that it’s inevitable that she’ll return to her body and I’m honestly not too keen to see that.

I agree with the other commentator; I didn’t care that her body got jacked. In fact, I was glad for her that her body got taken over. At least with a stronger personality in there, her body wasn’t a fresh meat buffet for the jackasses anymore. At least Cordelia kind of knows how to demand respect.

I don’t care about Yui disappearing either but I am glad to have Cordelia walking around wearing her body because that ought to be more fun than the typical shit we’ve seen so far.

If only it stayed that way…

  4. I wish that Yui would start standing up for herself. If I was her I would kick them where the sun doesn’t shine. Anyways, great review!!

I thought Yui getting bodyjacked was the best thing the show had done thus far. Woe to poorly written protagonists.
