Another Episode 04 – Put Flesh

Overview:

So Yukari died last episode. Turns out her mother also died on that day from a car accident which is probably why she was in such a rush and so freaked out when she left the class. Both deaths seem to have gotten the rumor mill up and running and we finally find out about the class 3 curse. According to it, a student from the class dies each month along with another person related to them. Nothing of the sort happened last year but Yukari’s death might be the indication that this year is not the same.

Kouchi is in the hospital for a check-up. His lungs are fine but he’s told to avoid strenuous activities. Afterwards, he meets with Nurse Lady (finally caught her name – Mizuno) whose brother turns out to be in class 3 with Kouichi. He confides all the odd shit going to her but she doesn’t really know anything and the most she can do about Mei is ask if she’s Kouichi’s love interest. She does happily promise to talk to her brother about it though.

Kouichi then runs into another girl in his class who’s skipping for the day. She’s in the theater club with Akazawa Izumi, a.k.a Countermeasures Girl, and the two of them chat for awhile and it’s all nice until the wind blows and they almost get sliced up by a falling glass pane. Kouichi tackles her out of the way but she freaks out about not wanting to die. It’s probably not even an overreaction if the stuff about the curse is true.

Later, Kouichi stops by the doll shop again. A young lady passes him by – probably the doll-maker referenced in the last episode. Inside, the old lady greets him with the exact same lines she used last time which is not creepy at all. And in the basement, Kouichi makes a beeline for the Mei doll and gets an actual Mei as well. She says the class is terrified because ‘it’ has probably begun. She also adds that Kouihi is better off not knowing anything and vanishes into thin air after warning him to be careful.

At his home, Kouichi’s aunt, Reiko, has a killer headache and is generally out of sorts. Turns out that she too was in class 3 fifteen years ago but claims not to remember anything about it. She does reiterate the tips about upholding class rules though.

The next day, the kids of class 3 are discussing Yukari’s death and also Kouichi’s presence. Seems like they think that Kouichi breaking the rules may be what kickstarted the curse. Izumi thinks it’s her fault for not talking to him on the first day and now is confused on how to approach the matter in a way that won’t make a further mess. She and her friends also wonder why they put a new student in class 3. Very valid question but it turns out to be the fault of the new principal who doesn’t get the real deal with class 3. The teachers also seem content to keep it among the students.

That’s some real responsible authority figures they’ve got.

Anyway, everyone shuts up once Kouichi gets there and also ignores him. He calls Blondie to get him to keep the promise of telling him everything in June. Blondie acts the same as always but Izumi is there with him and she asks that Kouichi forget that promise as a favor to the whole class. He agrees but asks about Blondie warning him about ‘things that don’t exist’. This makes Izumi irritated at Blondie for running his mouth but then Kouichi is distracted by the nurse calling him.

I’m starting to realize that Blondie’s hair is more light brown that blonde…what’s his name again?

Mizuni is uncharacteristically panicked when she asks after Mei. Turns out that she did ask her brother about her but he got agitated and was adamant that no one like that is in their class. Kouichi insists that Mei does exist. In the middle of their conversation, Mizuno enters an elevator which malfunctions and crashes, crushing her in the process. Kouichi hears the whole thing on the phone.

…okay then.

Thoughts:

So, is this going to be a thing now? We get an episode that’s mostly conversation – interesting ones though – and then right at the end, someone dies in gruesome ways. I called it this time though. The moment Mizuno mentioned her brother being in class 3, I was like ‘she’s gonna die, isn’t she?’ Guess I was right.

The details of class 3’s curse is interesting but also makes me wonder why anyone would go to Yomi North in that case or at least why they don’t transfer out before ninth grade. Then again, most people seem to think that it’s only a story. The people in the class itself seem to take it seriously though, and Izumi does hint at something similar happening two years ago… Ah, I don’t even know.

Everyone being wary of Kouichi is an interesting element. I kinda question the wisdom of keeping things from him, especially since his ignorance is suggested as what caused Yukari’s death. Plus he already knows something is fishy so it might be best to tell him wtf is going on.

Also, now that Mizuno is dead, does that mean her brother will die too? And who is her brother anyway?

Here’s the obligatory creepy doll shot of the episode.

Yes another erm Another post! 😊 Yep, I agree I knew she was going to die as well, but it was still shocking the way how she finally met her demise. (And a shame too, because shelves such a kindhearted soul).
It kind of makes you wander though doesn’t it? But not everyone seems to know about the curse in the first place, Kouchi did not seem to know either. It doesn’t seem to be public knowledge for everyone. Either way, as soon as I would find out about it, I would drop out of school right away 😂😂
But….answers are coming…not right away ofcourse, but you will get them. And there are so many good things to come….looking forward to the next post 😀😀

True – both she and Yukari were portrayed as nice people who died gruesome deaths. It’s kinda fun to wonder who’s next though…

And same. I don’t care how unlikely it is, I ain’t staying anywhere that’s got ghost rumors around it (says I as I live in a house with a legendary haunted tree in the premises).

Thanks 😀 I don’t mind wating for answers since the journey there has been fun so far.

Well ofcourse I am not going to tell you who’s next lol 😂
But yeah, expect more deaths…and luckily some hood answers as well.
As for your house…that sounds interesting a legendary haunted tree huh? Kind of reminds me of Poltergeist 😀

Yeah, it’s some weird myth about vengeful spirits inhabiting the tree. Freaked me out when I was a kid but nothing’s creeped into my room in 20 years so I’m guessing I’m safe 😀

Lol…well…I think you are safe to. Normally vengeful spirits like to go after small kids, so seeing as that has not happened, I reckon this spirit has been put to rest, or is either nor caring about going after you lol 😂

I love the elevator scene. You know that character is going to die as soon as she mentions her connection to the class. You know when she’s on the phone and steps into the elevator it is going to happen. It’s still awesome.
Yeah, they really should have like a class 9-3 handbook that explains the rules to everyone nice and clearly. Of course, they do throw an explainer in about why they can’t do something like that but it really is just a plot device to keep the audience and Kouichi in the dark a bit longer.
Looking forward to your next post on this.

Yes, exactly. It’s predicatble but no less fun for it.

A handbook like that would be a lifesaver, literally. At this point, I’m a bit confused by why they’re keeping Kouichi in the dark since his ignorance seems to be causing problems, assuming that they were right about him being what triggered the curse. But the plot wants what it wants, I suppose. I’m still eager to know more details of the mystery.

I gotta admit, my favourite part of thriller/horror shows is when people start getting picked off one by one. I can easily see how this kind of thing might be seen as overly predictable or unoriginal, but I quite like trying to figure out a) who’s next on the line and b) how exactly they’re going to go.

The ‘pick em off’ routine is a classic and for good reason. It doesn’t see repetitive or boring in this show though. If nothing else, that umbrella trick was brilliant without being Final Destination levels of convoluted.

I remember getting super sad about Mizuno’s death. Ah, well.

Her brother is a minor character who is mentioned more often than seen. You’ve seen him before but he literally doesn’t do much in the series.

There, there. At least it was quicker than Yukari’s death.

Mmm makes sense. I assumed that he wasn’t too important when there was no further mention of him after she died.
