Rating System

I use a standard 10-point rating system without any individual categories for story, music, art etc, just one score for the whole show. But I do have my own interpretation of each number and since none of you are mind-readers, I thought it’d best to explain it here.

1: I’ve yet to find a show that warrants this score and I hop it stays that way. Since I don’t rate dropped anime, it’s unlikely that I’ll ever watch something that’s bad enough to kill of all my precious brain cells.

2-4: Anime that are varying levels of bad. It could range from anything that’s merely unpleasant to true tripe.

5-6: Scores for perfectly mediocre anime, usually those that have some redeeming features but remains unimpressive for one or more reasons. It could be just one factor like an inconclusive ending or a combination of many elements from start to finish.

7: Along with 8, this is one of my most common ratings. An anime rated 7 is one I consider good but not particularly exceptional. I’d still recommend it but it’s bound to have some flaws.

8: The difference between a 7 and an 8 is great, at least for me. Though it’s just one point, a show scored 8 is levels above a 7. It’s for anime that are exceptional in one way or the other and keeps a fairly consistent quality from beginning to end. A definite rec.

9: I’m stingy with my 9s and 10s. That’s because for something to be rated above 8, it not only needs to be a great watch but must also have a special something that makes me fully invest in the characters and their story.

10: The top score an it has nothing to do with how ‘objectively’ good an anime is and more with how much fun I had watching it. This score is saved for shows that swept me away with its story and never let go until the end.

As you can see, my scores are highly subjective in nature. You can check out my MAL account to see all the anime I’ve watched and rated. The ones listed here are only those I’ve reviewed.
